With great sadness, we share that our founder Hall Newbegin passed away on June 3, 2020 at the age of 52 after complications from a fall. He passed peacefully with his 15-year-old daughter Jane and his sister by his side. Hall spent his life passionately advocating for the protection of wilderness, and his love of nature inspired others. By creating Juniper Ridge in 1998, he was able to share the scents of the wild places he visited throughout the West. He wanted everyone to be able to experience the restorative fragrances of the plants and trees he found in the forest, desert, and coastal ranges. More than 20 years later, Juniper Ridge has become a classic west coast home and body care company. Hall was proud of his company, and the team at Juniper Ridge is honored to continue the work that he started.
A message from Hall’s daughter Jane Newbegin:
“My dad always loved his freedom, he loved nature, and I can close my eyes and imagine him hiking in the Sierras right now. My aunt and I were there holding his hand playing music and singing to him as he passed away. My dad was a light and was full of laughter, kindness, and intelligence. He was so loved.”
Hall lived life by exploring with all of his senses, especially sight, smell and sound. Hall loved music almost as much as he loved being on the trail. He attended concerts weekly, and he was always in the front row dancing with a huge smile on his face.
We encourage you to follow Hall’s personal Spotify account. Here is one playlist that particularly reminded us of Hall. Enjoy.
If you would like to contribute to Hall’s legacy, his family suggests donating to CalWild, a wilderness defense organization that Hall supported and was on the board of for many years.
