We started Juniper Ridge in order to bring the spirit of the wild into our everyday life, and in keeping with that sentiment, we have also committed to protecting the wild places that inspire us. Our team is lucky enough to spend time up and down the West Coast, exploring and forging connections with the land. We know that unless we take action to protect our wilderness, it will disappear. That’s why, every year, through our Wilderness Defense Program, we donate 10% of our profits or 1% of our sales (whichever is greater) to organizations that fight to keep the wilderness wild.
When we connect to the wilderness, whether through going out there or through complex scent profiles, we discover something in ourselves; but we also feel tethered to the ecosystem in a way that connects us to something larger than just one person. Through the encompassing grandeur of the Cascades, the timelessness of the ancient trees of the Pacific Northwest, and the impenetrable peace of the desert, we want to make sure everyone can feel these landscapes echo within themselves. We recognize our privilege to work in such places and want to make sure we do what we can to ensure their longevity.

In 2019 we donated to eight different non-profit organizations that fight to preserve wild places all over the western states, a mission that is more important now than ever. As the federal government opens up places that were previously protected and threatens wild places all over the country (and the world), organizations like our partners, the Soda Mountain Wilderness Council, take up the difficult task of protecting the land and ensuring its safety from private interests and industry.
The organization was founded back in 1984 with a mission of protecting and promoting the wildlands of the Soda Mountain-Pilot Rock area, an area renowned for its biodiversity in the Southern Cascade Range, now known as the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument Area. Their efforts helped create the National Monument, and with their work alongside the Bureau of Land Management over the last 25 years, the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument has grown to encompass 114,000 acres.
Despite their courageous work founding the National Monument, the area is now threatened by the current administration, one of 27 monuments under “review” by Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke. The Soda Mountain Wilderness Council continues to fight for this remarkable region, defending the area from administrative, legal, and congressional attacks. We are grateful for the opportunity to support the important work the Soda Mountain Wilderness Council does.
In Washington, we’ve partnered with Washington Wild to help protect the Northern Cascades and the breathtaking but at-risk Puget Sound, a critical habitat for a diverse range of species.
We seek out great organizations all over the West Coast whose missions coincide with our ethos. This year we were able to work with American Whitewater on their Wild Olympic campaign, an effort to make over 126,500 acres of the Olympic National Forest a wilderness area. Also in Washington, we’ve partnered with Washington Wild to help protect the Northern Cascades and the breathtaking but at-risk Puget Sound, a critical habitat for a diverse range of species, including all five species of Western Pacific salmon. In California, in our home state, we’ve continued our commitment to our much beloved unique coastal regions by supporting California Wilderness Coalition and their initiatives on the Central and Northern Coasts.
We spend the year wild and sustainably harvesting some of the fragrant flora of these regions so that when we aren’t sleeping under the stars up in the desert, lying down on redwood needles on the California Coast, or breathing in the crisp air up in the Cascades, we can bring nature right into our homes and yours. We’ve been able to donate over a quarter of million dollars since starting Juniper Ridge, starting with tiny checks of $100 dollars, sometimes even less. It is an honor for us to continue our commitment to conservation and wilderness education, and we are grateful to these organizations for allowing us to support their work and so proud of the work they do.

American Whitewater – American Whitewater’s mission is to protect and restore America’s whitewater rivers and to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely
California Wilderness Coalition – CalWild protects and restores the state’s wildest natural landscapes and watersheds on public lands.
Gwich’in Steering Committee – was formed in 1988 in response to increasing threats to open the Sacred Place Where Life Begins, the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to leasing for oil.
Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands Center – KS Wild’s mission is to protect and restore wild nature in the Klamath-Siskiyou region of southwest Oregon and northwest California.
Oregon Wild – Oregon Wild works to protect and restore Oregon’s wildlands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy for all Oregonians.
Oregon Natural Desert Association – Oregon Natural Desert Association’s conservation program protects the most spectacular places in Oregon’s high desert, including such treasured spots as Steens Mountain, the Oregon Badlands, the John Day River, and the Owyhee Canyonlands.
Soda Mountain Wilderness Council – Formed in 1984, the Soda Mountain Wilderness Council works to rewild the ecologically strategic biological connectivity corridor between the Siskiyou Mountains, globally significant for their botanical diversity, and the southern Cascade Range – part of which is now known as the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.
Washington Wild – Since 1979, Washington Wild has played an invaluable role in permanently protecting nearly three million acres of Wilderness throughout Washington State.
It has always been our goal at Juniper Ridge to give back and protect the wild places we love in a substantial way, and it is thanks to you, our community and customers, that we are now able to do so. What you use, eat, watch and wear makes a difference, and so limiting consumption and consuming consciously is one the best things we can do. We’re all in this together, and together, we will make a difference.
